I worked at Novartis Institutes of Biomedical Research (NIBR) for 6 months from January to June in 2015 for co-op. During this time, I designed and manufactured products that would enable, fix, or optimize new and existing research projects from brainstorming to implementation. Groups that I assisted at NIBR include: Global Imaging, Neuroscience, Ophthalmology, ASI Genomics, and Global Discovery Chemistry.
Technical skills that I learned at Novartis include how to operate/manage 3D printers, mesh cleanup, post-processing of 3D printed parts, and a new CAD software: Rhino. At Novartis, I scheduled meetings with scientists, determined design constraints, and presented solutions. My design skills and knowledge also developed under the guidance of my mentor, Michael Smith, who taught me to keep it simple.
Currently, only the first three projects below have detailed descriptions on their own page.
